Tougher citizenship requirements to be introduced this week
Legislation to toughen citizenship requirements is due to be introduced this week.
The planned changes mean prospective citizens would need greater English language skills and have to show a commitment to Australian values.
They would also give the Immigration Minister Peter Dutton more power to overrule decisions by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) granting citizenship.
The government is expected to forge ahead with this new legislation during this last sitting fortnight before the winter recess.
